How do we greet them this time?

This is tongue-in-cheek of course, however we have a significant division on how many on NewsVine view our elected leaders. Real National Polls reflect that Congress has a disapproval rating that tops 80%...meaning it's likely that our CongressVermin may be Guest's of Honor at entirely different sorts of events.

We, as the great unwashed, ill-edumacated, illiterate masses know all too well that we are in for a campaign season full of the most despicable mud-slinging, name calling and underhanded evilness we've ever seen (and that seems to be the predominant view of the T.E.A. Party, alone!)

We will be stalked by robo-calls daily and answering endless, mindless policial messages where we will have no voice or any recourse other than to unplug our phones to gain peace.

I still stand by my original article of December 2009. http://oldphartbsa.newsvine.com/_news/2009/12/23/3666317-citizen-call-for-no-incumbents-campaign

Vote every stinking one of them out. I don't care who you vote for, as long as it's not the incumbent. But let every freshman elected know that each and every one of us will be watching them closely, with an extremely prejudiced eye. They are to represent us, the citizens of the United States...not the Corporate Oligarch, not the United Nations -- us as in U.S.

Normally I make a pitch here calling for observance of the COH. However, we ARE talking about Congress, which has absolutely NO HONOR. So it's up to you.

And I'm still figuring out how to fold my tin foil hat...I keep ripping the foil.

Ever make one of those newspaper hats when you were a kid? Try doing it like that :)

Anyway, on to the topic: local level, the incumbents actually tend to do right by my town and county. State, at least our district Representative tries.

You go to the federal level, though, and I... well, I'm not going to go into the whole Arlen Specter thing... haven't thought much good about him since his days on a certain commission...

It is said that "the more local--the more effective"...at least in politics and sex (both involve screwing someone). Good luck with your federal elections.

Hey there my friend, Changed shifts at my work recently due to medical reasons, so haven't been able to spend as much time on the Vine as I would like. Good article. One of my senators and one Rep are doing everything they can to stop Obama and his minions while they are still in office. These two guys are getting my vote, but the other two from my district are getting kicked to the curb and I think they know it.

Good to hear from you again. I'm of the opinion that they all should be swept out, but to each their own.

I want to add to my post #3 - the senator and rep I spoke of are both first-termers not career politicians.

They both speak to their constituents through facebook and they access it daily with updates to what they are doing and where they are. I like it because its quicker than sending a letter or an email and it is more real time.

But do they actually read and respond to constituent concerns? Or is it some anonymous staffer maintaining it? Facebook is great for immediacy, however how can they detemine a constituent from anyone else. Or from opposition operatives?

Yes they do and they are very good about updating what they are working on and how they are voting on issues. Most people I know, put the town they currently live in and the state, so that's one way for them to determine constituents from everybody else. Any time you post anything on facebook, unless you send it private, it will post for the public to read. You have to send a friend request and they have to accept (like on myspace) to have access to someone's profile and be able to communicate with them on the site. Other than harassment, I don't know why anybody would want to 'friend' a senator or rep from a state they don't live in. The site doesn't allow bad language of any sort or trolling and from what I've seen, it is not a site used by opposition operatives. You can post a comment of opposition on anything they may be working on, but you have to be much more civil than here on the Vine. Bear in mind that they can't reply to each and every comment or question asked of them, but when there is a general consensus wanting the answer to any issue or problem they are quick to respond. They both will post how they voted on any issue before them in Washington as soon as they can, usually before it is in the news.

My other senator just sends you a form letter and most times doesn't bother to respond to you. She is history in 2012 and she knows it.

I use facebook and I know that individuals can freely change any of their personal information, such as hometown, etc as frequently as they like. There is no way to verify any person's info...so postings to representatives and senators can come from anyone, anywhere in the world, from voting age adults to seven year olds (who seem to be the predominant mental population of facebook).

Use of facebook by politicians is helpful for getting their side of an issue, but I have grave doubts about its effectiveness as a means of constituent contact. Same with email, they have no way of knowing who oldphartbsa is anymore than hotchick@sexwithchickens.com. (that once was an actual email site...don't know if it's a valid address though (surprisingly, it wasn't porn, it was comic))

While snail-mail letters are mostly ignored by our current rulling elite, I believe they remain the most commonly effective means of getting a point across to any politician that possibly cares about their constituent interests are. Plus they have validation in a signature and return address and/or phone number. And nothing beats a good old face-to-face meeting to lt them know you're pissed enough to confront them.

Both of the congressman I have been talking about do town hall meetings pretty regular and they post video of it on their websites with links to it from facebook. The state I live in is one of the ones affected adversely by that oil spill in the gulf that the current White House occupier dragged his feet on. Both of these congressmen have kept after the s-- t head-in-chief to force him to do right by everyone who has lost their job in the seafood industry that was a great many folks livelyhood on the coast. They are currently working to get the ban on offshore drilling lifted that is forcing oil companies to go to Brazil for. I have written both of these men in the past and have always received a response that was personal and prompt thru email and regular mail. I've never received a form letter from them and I write them on a regular basis, because of the treasonous acts of the jerk illegally occupying the White House and the things his wife does that I don't agree with. Ex: Too many vacations, too many aides in her employ, lavish parties at the White House, etc, etc. I always get an answer that details what they are doing to change/stop what it is I see wrong and they agree with me. I have a folder of personal letters from each of them.

The other senator from my district doesn't even acknowledge your letter and when she does respond, it is a form letter. She comes up for re-election in 2012. She will get voted out along with the liar-in-chief, if he hasn't been impeached by then.

You're fortunate to have at least two elected "leaders" that are responsive. You should mention them by name as they should be lauded. I live in California...all we get are form letter responses from national and state politicians. The only elected elected office holder I know that is reponsive is at the County level or lower.

He's a decent enough guy, seems to remember my name etc, but he's surrounded by the most corrupt county politicians in years. If one bad apple will ruin a barrel, what does a barrel of bad apples do a one good apple?

I live in the So.California desert, my representative is Jerry Lewis (R), who voted for the TARP and threw away any semblance of capitalism. My unfortunate state is represented by Mrs. (please call me Senator) Boxer and Feinstein. All have to go. We, as a state, also have the misfortune to be associated with Nemesis Pelolsi.

In other words, the formerly great state of California is exporting its ideas into the national forum...leading the nation on fiscal failure and social collapse. It's a wonder that the rest of the US hasn't extended the border fence around Calfornia's boundaries.
